Well it's almost spring but here is a document I found in the draft box on the Winter Element according to TCM(Traditional Chinese Medicine),,,,
Winter's power is deep and yin{receptive} and is an important time for reflecting on and feeling what your inner changes are so you can weave them into your dance of life. According to TCM, {Traditional Chinese Medicine}, winter is a time to replenish energy and resources with rejuvenating activities such as yoga or tai chi, to spend more time at home with family and friends, and a time of seeking warmth and dream time. Winters are quiet and sensitive, nature in her restoring season, withdrawn, roots deep in the earth, preparing for spring behind the scenes. Winter seems to be a time to get plenty of rest, good nutrition, relaxation, reflecting, and sleep. It is important, however, to keep our bodies warm and our energy moving. The direction associated with the winter element is North, the climate is cold, and the flavor is salty. In the Chinese Five Element system, winter is related to water, which is the essential medium in our body thru which all things pass. The bladder and Kidneys, which regulate the body's water, are the organs associated with the water element and the winter season. Remember water is a receptive element, which listens to sound and is open to energy input. Kidneys, ears, and embryos are all shaped similarly, and the embryo grows in the water element until it is a fetus. In TCM, sound travels to the developing embryo's ears via the water element, and therefore problems of the ears reflect a water element disharmony, and are the sense organs related to the water element. The water element can be related to the emotions in general, but the specific emotional imbalance is fear. This can manifest as certain phobias like a general anxiety about life, paranoia, or negativity in which one always expects the worse. Fear is either a cause or a consequence of a water imbalance. An illness affecting the bladder or kidneys may generate a fearful feeling, and fear itself can injure these organs according to TCM. During excitement or change, one with a water imbalance may respond by trembling, which represents a release of fearful energy or tension in the body. Although fear may block the expression of love, love and faith can transmute fear. Two additional associations of the Water element are the groaning sound and the bones of the body. Groaning and moaning come from deep within and hearing its overtones in the voice may point to an imbalance in the Water element. Bones and bone marrow are body parts governed by this element. It is said the kidneys govern the storage of the life force in the bones and marrow, therefore people with bone problems may have a water imbalance. *1 The Water element also governs the sexual reproductive organs, sexual functions, the urethral and anal orfices, the urine, and the sexual secretions. The health of the Water element affects the energy flow during sexual relations and the health of the reproductive functions. Problems like impotence or infertility may arise from a Water element imbalance. Also, an excess or lack of sexual relations will ultimately affect the kidneys and the balance of the this element. A few more diagnostic clues in TCM relating to the kidneys and to inner vitality is the presence of the "sparkle of life" in the eyes. This sparkle comes from the kidneys, although the health of the eye tissue itself is related to the liver and Wood elements. Head hair is also a good health indicator for the Water element. Any rapid changes in your hair many suggest an imbalance of the Water element, whether its too dry, oily, thick, or thin or balding. The colors associated with the water element are blue and black. Dark foods can be ingested to help heal and strengthen the kidneys/adrenals such as blueberries, eggplant, black beans, seaweed, aduki beans, deep sea water fish, and miso. *2 And remember, winter is an important time to feel your innermost changes and weave them into the dance of life. source: 1.Staying Healthy with the Seasons 2.
